Quarantine the Goldfish

One of the first line of action that you have to take to save a dying goldfish is to separate the sick goldfish from the other fish in the fishbowl or aquarium. This is done so that the sick fish does not contaminate the water and make the other healthy fish sick. Once you have removed the dying goldfish from the fishbowl, place it in a separate bowl which has been filled with filtered water or bottled mineral water. It is advisable that you do not fill the bowl with tap water as there might be contaminants in the tap water which might be making your goldfish sick.

Change the Water

Once you have isolated the sick goldfish from the other fish, it is a good idea to change the water in the bowl a couple of times. At this point of time it is advisable that you do not add any additives or salt to the water. Keep the fish under observation for a couple of hours. Start Medications

If your goldfish is still lying on the bottom of the fishbowl even after the water change, then you need to start with medications. But first you need to look out for signs of diseases. For cloudy eyes, slime on body, tail and fin rot as well as bloody spots and swim bladder disease, you can use a fungus eliminator. Feed Shelled and Boiled Frozen Peas

Sometimes in our enthusiasm to feed our fish, we overfeed them. If a particular goldfish overeats, it might end up suffering from swim bladder disorder. If your dying goldfish has a distended belly, sinks to the bottom of the bowl or floats to the top upside-down, it might be suffering from swim bladder disorder. To treat this disorder, thaw some frozen peas and boil them until they are tender. Then skin the peas and mash them up. Feed this to your ailing goldfish and it is sure to get well soon.
